Carl B. Stokes was the first black mayor of a major American city (Cleveland, between 1968 and 1971) believed in working within the system in order to change it.
The first side of the album was a recording of a press conference. The second side featured Stokes reciting a variety of black poetry over a wonderful orchestral score by Oliver Nelson. His reading of Langston Hughes´'Sit Down' is excellent the side with the Poem 'Paint It Black' by newcomer Gil Scott-Heron.
