Herd Of The Ether Space
"Herd Of The Ether Space"
Throughout the 1980's, members of the Taped Rugs Productions family gathered in various groupings many times to create and record improvised avant garde music on a Frippertronics-style tape loop system. The recordings were saved; sometimes copies were made for the participants or for individual listeners, but no copies were made available to the general public until early 1989. That's when Charles Rice Goff III, Killr "Mark" Kaswan, and Robert Silverman actually came up with the name: HERD OF THE ETHER SPACE to refer to this loose-knit band of sonic explorers.
Charles Rice Goff III, Killr "Mark" Kaswan, and Robert Silverman came up with the name Herd of the Ether Space in early 1989 to refer to their loose-knit band of sonic explorers and avant-garde sound improvisers who had been recording experimental tape-loop music together since July 1984.
The Project Origins: The core collaborators first gathered for an improvised recording session using guitars, keyboards, a cello, and tape loops on July 4, 1984, in Albany, California.
The Moniker: Though they recorded for years, they did not adopt the Herd of the Ether Space name until 1989, when they began widely distributing and releasing their catalog via Taped Rugs Productions.
The Collective: Over two decades, no fewer than 29 different underground artists and experimental musicians contributed to the ensemble's live performances and cassette releases.
This archive series presents unaltered Herd Of The Ether Space tape loop improvisations from the 1980's in the chronological order in which they were created.
Volume XV Recorded February 5th, 1989, in Oakland, California.
