Jake Holmes A Ghost In The Machine
JAKE HOLMES:
DAZED AND CONFUSED
In 1967, Jake Holmes released a masterclass in mood called "Dazed and Confused." While the world later embraced the heavy, distorted Led Zeppelin version, the original remains a haunting piece of acid-folk driven by a clean, double-tracked acoustic guitar and a melodic bass motif.
The history of the track is legendary: Jimmy Page saw Holmes perform the song in New York while opening for The Yardbirds and was immediately struck by the composition. After decades of silence, the matter was settled in 2010, and Holmes is now rightfully credited for his inspiration.
Beyond the Daze: Holmes has one of the most eclectic resumes in music. From forming a folk trio with Joan Rivers to writing lyrics for Frank Sinatra's 1970 concept album, Watertown, his creative reach is vast.
He later became a commercial icon, penning some of the most famous jingles in American history, including "Be All That You Can Be" and "I'm a Pepper." At 86, he remains a testament to the power of a pure discovery artist.
