"Siesmo" by...

upsammy & valentina

Upsammy (Thessa Torsing) and Valentina Magaletti are an experimental electronic music duo whose collaboration focuses on blending acoustic percussion with synthetic, percussive textures. They released their collaborative album, Seismo, on PAN in April 2026.

The foundation of Seismo was born from a creative commission by Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum to create a soundtrack for an exhibition featuring works from Rotterdam's Museum Boijmans van Beuningen.

Project Origin: The collaboration began following a commission from Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum to create a soundtrack for an exhibition.

Sound and Style: Seismo is described as an interplay between rhythmic acoustic mallet instruments and digital sounds, featuring "mischievous vocal snippets, disorienting rhythms and collapsing sonic architectures". The music is characterized as a "phantasmagoric push-and-pull" between harmony, dissonance, and organic/synthetic textures.

Creative Process: The pair recorded drums and percussive sounds within the museum's galleries to utilize the unique room tone, which were later processed alongside synths and field recordings to create a textured, "luminescent" sound.

The Album (Seismo): Released on the renowned label PAN, the album is described as a puzzling assembly of samples and improvisations that challenge the boundary between their roles.

Notable Tracks: Tracks from the project include "Superimposed," "Hyperlocalize," and "Thickness Of Signs".

Upsammy (Thessa Torsing): An Amsterdam-based producer and DJ known for trippy, bass-heavy club music with releases on labels like Dekmantel and AD 93.

Valentina Magaletti: A UK-based drummer, percussionist, and composer recognized for her experimental, versatile techniques. She has collaborated with artists like Radiohead, Nicolas Jaar, and Mica Levi, and is involved in projects like Holy Tongue.
